Hi team,

Sadly, last weekend saw the last of this season’s home games.  Players and fans alike were treated to a gorgeous day for rugby, players were treated to warm and vocal fans, and fans were rewarded with exciting games on the field.  It was indeed a rugby day.

The Ladies started off the day and ended their season on a bit of a down note.  They came up against a very solid UNB squad and fell 32-10.  The Loyalists points were scored by Sarah Wilby, who raced in for a long try from an intercept, and Lindsay Brandon, who converted the try and added an early penalty kick.  Tough way to end the season ladies, but let’s not forget what a successful year it has been.  Chins up.

In the late game the A side hosted the Saint John Trojans in the Provincial Final.  The game started well for the boys with constant pressure resulting in a number of Trojans penalties.  Scotty Mac was able to convert 3 of the penalties into a 9-0 lead going into the half.  Off the opening kickoff in the second half Chris Hunter made a break through the middle and after a couple of rucks deep in Trojans territory, finished off the move with tough try.  15 minutes after that Haddon Murray climbed high to collect a nicely weighted Brent Rowney chip and offloaded to a streaking Todd Beck who touched-down in the corner.   That put us up to a seemingly comfortable 19-0 lead halfway through the half.  The Trojans would not go down quietly though and scored two late tries to make it 19-12.  Fortunately for us, our defence held them off long enough to run them out of time and give us a very hard-fought victory and a date with the Valley Bulldogs in the Caledonia Cup.  Chris Hunter was again named man of the match.  Thanks to all the fans, as always.

In other news this week, we got the great word yesterday that Jebb Sinclair is on the bench for Canada’s test match vs Portugal on Saturday in Lisbon.  I spoke with Jebb yesterday and he was more pissed at being on the bench than he was excited about being selected to the squad.  That’s the right attitude to have if he wants more of these chances.  As of yet I have not found an outlet that will be showing the game live but please let me/anyone know if you know of any way we can see this game.  Good luck Jebby, make us (more) proud!

Here’s what’s up this weekend:

On the Field:

1) CALEDONIA!!!!!!!! – Saturday 3pm, Kentville Soccer Complex.  The players are all set for travel and accommodations.  We are staying at the Wandlyn Hotel in Kentville.  They were booked solid earlier in the week but rooms may have opened up.  Failing that here are a couple of other options: Greensborough Inn 902-681-3201 - Old Orchard Inn 1-800-561-8090 - Slumber Inn 902-681-5000.  Post match festivities will be at the King’s Arms Pub.  It would be great to have a traveling band of vocal supporters as per usual.

Off the Field:

1) As stated above, we will be convening at the King’s Arms Pub post game.  After that we will head back to the Wandlyn where their in-house nightclub will be having a Halloween Party.  Just something to keep in mind.

2) Looking forward a little, Saturday November 15th will be the date of this year’s Awards Banquet.  Full details to follow but mark it on your calendars now!

That’s what’s up!

Stay Classy,

Si
